EXCERPtS of DANCE WORKS BY STARRENE FOSTER

The Waiting Room is a 14 minute dance work that incorporates 6 guest dancers from the community. This excerpt is from the 3rd section.

Inspired by Foster’s grandmothers holocaust stories, Nineteen43, is a haunting 25 minute dance work in 5 sections about surviving the holocaust in Danzig. Her grandmothers stories are an incredible account of endurance, commitment and perseverance. This excerpt is from sections 1, 3 and 4 .

Stripped premiered in RVa as a part of the 18th Annual Mid-Atlantic Choreographers Showcase celebrating PRIDE. This performance was unique, and was presented “on a square in the round” with all the presenting works embracing LGBTQIA+ themes and concepts regarding gender, sex, and sexuality.

Based on the prompt: What if, in one moment, you had changed your mind during your journey. And if so, how would that change affect the final outcome? For CRAVE, the stage is split into two sections with two duets performing at the same time. The audience witnesses one outcome, and then switch sides during intermission to experience the other. The premiere of CRAVE incorporated visual artists who followed the same prompt, and showcased their work in the theatre lobby.

Sisterhood, performed by Molly Huey and Anna Branch, was a part of Page to Stage II and inspired by a story by Judith Bice.

The Apology premiered April 2022 at The Basement in RVa.

Things That Fit Tight Around The Ribs was presented aa a part of Page to Stage II and inspired by a poem by Molly Todd.
